Revealed: Top 5 Sports Vans in the UK in 2019

Top 5 Sports Vans in the UK in 2019

Introduction

In this article I will introduce the top 5 best Sports Vans in the UK in 2019. There are a fair few popular vans in the UK this year, so the list was fairly difficult to narrow down to five.

Top 5

5. Ford fiesta van

The Fiesta Sport Van mixes the practicality of a van, with its large storage areas,  with Sport Line features. It has bumpers, 18inch wheels and a rear spoiler taken directly from the standard Fiesta Sport line, while the interior also has a pair of bolstered sports seats. Similarly to the regular Fiesta Sport line, and most other lines cars/vans that continuously receive updated versions, it has a more tech-filled interior than the previous generation. An 8.0innch touchscreen with Ford’s Sync 3 infotainment is available on the inside, thus allowing Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone compatibility. This sporty van grants the buyer with three engine options, with two being petrol engines. The two petrol options are as follows; 1.1-litre engine, offering 84bhp, and the second a turbocharged 1.0-litre Ecoboost engine with 123bhp, being much more powerful than the first, and the most powerful option out of all three options. The third option is a 1.5-litre TDCi engine, available in two power outputs such as 84bhp and 118bhp. Ford decides to pass down the Fiesta hatchback’s driver assist features onto the van - a pre-collision warning system that can detect pedestrians, blindspot warning and adaptive cruise control are available across the range. The Sport Van version gets Sport-Line additions such as an adjustable speed limiter and lane-keep assist, which does not come equipped on non-sport-line vehicles. The eight available colour options are Race Red, Frozen White, Blazer Blue, Moondust Silver, Chrome Blue, Magnetic, Ruby Red, Shadow Black.

4. Ford Transit Courier Sport

The Ford Transit Courier Sport has two available options; the choice of a 100bhp 1.0-litre Eco boost petrol or the 95bhp 1.5-litre TDCi diesel. This slick van has a five-speed manual transmission for 104g/km emissions and 70.6mpg fuel economy. The van is very distinctive, with its 16-inch Magnetic Grey painted alloys, front fog lights, colour-keyed bumpers and on Magnetic painted vans, the red sport stripes down the side and over the roof of this van. Inside, equipment includes powered and heated door mirrors, a leather-trimmed steering wheel with red stitching, manual air-conditioning, remote central locking and electric front windows. The Courier’s boxy design equals more load volume than the outgoing Fiesta (see no.5) at 1.9 cubic metres. Maximum load length and height are 1,620mm and 1,244mm respectively, with the added practicality of a sliding side door. The Transit Courier Sport has a gross payload of 661kg. The differences between the regular Courier and Courier sport is the additional sports alloys, sport stripes and comfier sports seats in the Sport. The available colours are Moondust Silver, Magnetic, Shadow Black, Frozen White Solid body colour, Race Red.

3. Mercedes-Benz Vito Sport

The Vito Sport comes with a chrome grille, chrome sidebars, front fog lights, body coloured bumpers and five-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels supplying this powerhouse with  distinctive look, while also making it stand out from the standard Vito. It's available in a wide choice of colours too, including Jupiter Red and Obsidian Black metallic. The Vito Sport contains a  2.1-litre diesel engine. The two versions available are the 116 BlueTec and the 119 BlueTec. With 163bhp the 116 BlueTec has a lot of power. It generally travels 47.1mpg. It comes with a slick six-speed gearbox, but if you want an automatic you have to accept a bigger hole in your pocket and opt for the more powerful 119 BlueTec. The reason that this powerful beast has not been placed higher on the list is due to the dated technology on the dashboard and interior, which is quite confusing considering the hefty price tag which is approximately £30,000.

2. Ford Transit Custom Sport

This Ford Custom comes with a sport stripe down the front bonnet and across the roof. It contains an even more powerful version of Ford’s 2.0-litre EcoBlue turbocharged diesel engine, giving it a 182bhp. Buyers are given the choice of either a manual or automatic six-speed transmission. A body kit with deeper front and rear bumpers, wider side skirts, flared wheel arches and body coloured door mirrors are few of the things which are unique to these sport vans. There is also a choice of either 17- or 18-inch alloy wheels. Different to the Vito Sport, this has a high tech interior, with a roaming WIFI hotspot and an 8-inch infotainment screen. Optional equipment includes active park assist, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist and a blind spot monitoring system with support for trailers up to 10 metres in length. The price is £32,000, only £2,000 more than the Vito, but with a much more modern interior.

1. Volkswagen Transporter Sportline

The powerful 204bhp BiTDI Sportline has a responsive 7-speed dual clutch direct shift gearbox (the van is an automatic) enabling it to go from 0-60mph in as little as 8.9 seconds and reaching car-like speeds of up to 126mph. It also comes equipped with black and red luxury leather racer seats and a short but sleek spoiler. It also has 18” alloy wheels. Also there are integrated front fog lights, and the tailgate has heated windows and wash-wipes, as standard on the kombi models. The automatically dimming rear-view mirror has a rain sensor as standard. The Transporter Sportline offers BiTDI common-rail direct injection diesel engines with power outputs of 204PS with the Euro 6 emissions standard. Every one of these state-of-the-art Euro 6 engines is equipped with a start/stop system, regenerative braking, Hill Hold Assist and roll resistance-optimised tyres. You can choose between normal and sport mode. Parking assistance is also included in the vehicle, displayed on the touchscreen on the dashboard. The price for this top of the line, high-tech vehicle is a hefty £46,000, but offers a lot of good reasons to purchase it.
