Revealed: New Ford Transit Active and Trail editions

Premier Commercial Vehicles can reveal that Ford now been working on a new vehicle line-up to further cement their position as the number one commercial vehicle brand. Introducing the new Ford Transit Trail (large van), the Ford Transit Custom Trail (medium van) as well as the Transit Custom Active and Tourneo Custom Active trims.

New Ford Transit Custom Active

Much like its name suggests, this design is to appeal to buyers that need to carry larger capacities for their ‘active’ lifestyles. This trim which we have already seen across a wide range of passenger cars, has been added to the Transit Custom and Tourneo Custom.
Both vehicles use the same design parameters as the Fiesta Active and Focus Active.

Styling will include black wheel arch cladding, a mesh grille, roof rails, 17-inch alloy wheels, black side skirts and a slick black trim for the front and rear bumpers. The design is finished off nicely with the Active logo badge on the tailgate and front wings. Not a lot has changed with the interior except for the introduction of gloss black interior trim and part-leather seats.

Although the Fiesta Active and Focus Active have adopted a different ride height, Ford have chosen to keep this model unchanged. Buyers are able to add an mLSD limited-slip differential, developed in conjunction with engineers at Quaife which will set you back around £550. This is designed to improve traction in slippery conditions and could prove to be rather popular amongst adventurers and explorers. It is worth noting however that this will have a negative impact on fuel consumption.

Available to order now, the Tourneo Active model can only be acquired in the eight-seat option with a standard wheelbase. The Transit Custom on the other hand has far more options. You can order this vehicle as a standard (L1) or long-wheelbase (L2) format as either a double cab or panel van. You are limited with the roof height however as this only comes in the standard height (H1).

If you are wondering how you are going to get you and your kit to the top of those tough mountain ranges, then the answer lies within Ford’s EcoBlue diesel engine which comes with an impressive 130, 170 or 185ps. If you want to feel like you’re doing your bit for the environment, then you can always opt for the 48v Mild-Hybrid. Prices for the Tourneo Active start at £37,950 while the Ford Transit Custom Active model will set you back £30,000.

These vehicles are available to order now so please contact our team for more information or to request a quote. You might also be interesting in learning that Ford will expand their already popular Active range by adding the Transit Connect and Tourneo Connect to the line-up later this year.

New Ford Transit Trail

This chunky commercial vehicle has been introduced to the range to target a wider range of business customers. The large Transit Trail and the mid-sized Transit Custom Trail boast a black grille with large ‘Raptor-style’ Ford lettering, black alloy wheels and black lower body cladding. If that wasn’t enough, buyers can opt for additional roof rails and running boards.

Although the exterior looks like it is ready to tackle rough terrain, the inside is a different story and includes an impressive black leather trim. It makes it far easier to clean off the mud and dirt after an exhausting trip. Standard features also include auto headlights, Quickclear windscreen, power-folding mirrors, and all-important air conditioning.

The Quaife mLSD limited-slip differential is fitted as standard in this model but you will need to request other options, such as all-season tyres. The Transit Trail comes as a two-wheel drive as standard but there is the option to order a four-wheel drive if that suits your needs. The 4x4 system sends power to the rear wheels in normal conditions but can send up to an impressive 50% to the front axle if it needs to.

Thankfully, the introduction of four-wheel drive doesn’t compromise the carrying ability of the Ford Transit. This exciting new model comes with a drive mode controller on the dashboard that allows you to select between Slippery and Mud/Rut modes.

You can buy both the Transit Trail and Transit Custom Trail in either a panel van or double cab body style with deliveries due later in the summer. These vans are powered by Ford’s EcoBlue diesel engine, which is available in the 130, 170 or 185ps. In addition to this, the new Ford Transit Custom Train engine range is offered with mild hybrid assistance packing 48-volts.

As for pricing, the Transit Trail starts from £35,685 with the Transit Custom Trail coming in at £29,950. For more information on expected delivery times as well as tailor-made quotes on Hire Purchase, Finance Lease or Contract Hire, speak to a member of our team.
