Top 4 Places to Drive in Wales this Summer

Summertime is arguably the most enjoyable part of the year with the lighter evenings, smell of barbeques and on most days; a wonderful warm breeze.

You don’t have to go far to enjoy some of the most breath-taking views in the country with Wales offering a wide choice of routes to admire such scenery. Here are our top 4 places to drive in Wales during the summer.

Gower

A coastal route with worldwide fame and plenty of beaches for drive around. There is a traditional feel to all of the pubs and hotels in the area with the vast majority open all year round. If you enjoy a game of golf you might want to stop at the prestigious Pennard Golf Club or perhaps you can brush up on your local history knowledge by visiting King Arthur’s Stone. Of course, we cannot mention the Gower without referring to the surf culture that has dominated this part of Wales for years. This place seems to have something for everyone.

Pembrokeshire Coast

Staying in South Wales, Pembrokeshire Coast is another natural treasure that combines beauty with adventure. Travel from Tenby to St. Davids and explore the multiple stops along the way. There is a wide range of restaurants and bars that are perfect for couples and families. Obviously, the beaches aren’t too bad either, with tourists travelling the length of the country the visit these hotspots. While you’re in St. Davids, don’t forget to pop your head into the cathedral. Originally built in AD 589, this is the smallest UK

Abergwesyn Mountain Road

You don’t need a 4x4 to tackle this mountain road, a small car will do. This winding road passes through the Cambrian Mountains and boasts and impressive number of twists and turns to navigate through. It isn’t the easiest to get there however it is worth the effort when you’ve reached it. There are vast amounts of forestry and lakes to gaze upon as your venture but be mindful during the descent in to Tregaron as it can get steep.

Snowdonia

Yes, it is the highest point in Wales and yes it is the most famous mountain range that we have to offer however Snowdonia is so much more than that. Not only does it have the longest zip line in Europe but it also has a huge trampoline park situated in… a cave! Not your everyday experience I can tell you now. There are also long stretches of roads that twist and turn around the mountains offering spectacular views. It is no surprise why this is on our list.

If you do decide to take on one of these journeys, please drive safely and tell others where you are going prior to leaving.
