Changes to the Vehicle Registration Certificate (V5C)

Changes to the Vehicle Registration Certificate (V5C)

From 15th April 2019 the Driver & Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) changed the long-standing logbook that we have all learnt to instantly identify. The redesign was initially discussed and agreed following a review in 2016.

The newly-designed document that outlines the ownership of a vehicle has been simplified to improve the customer’s experience.

Don’t worry, even though a new version has been issued, any previous versions, no matter how old, will still be valid. As a result of the changes, the GOV.UK website has been amended to co-inside with the alterations and references.

Front Cover

·        The address and name on the front cover has been moved to the top.
·        Multi-coloured guidance section has been added to the bottom.
·        Enforcement message has been added to the front.
·        The words ‘Don’t share, keep it safe’ have been added to the front along with the document reference number.
·        Date of acquisition has been moved to below the document reference number.

Internal

·        Section 5 (permanently exporting this vehicle for more than 12 months) – country of export field has been added.
·        Section 6 (new keeper’s slip) – name and address fields removed.
·        Customers can now supply contact details.
·        Change of keeper and change of name and address have been separated.
·        The vehicle details have been rearranged to the top half of the page to create extra room.

Throughout

·        Back page of the English document has been left blank.
·        Welsh version is on one side and English on the other to simplify the layout and experience.
·        Signature boxes removed and replaced with declarations in red.
·        Data capture boxes introduced for accuracy and simplification.
·        Simplified instructions.
·        V5CW – serialised across the three pages that are V5C issuing sections.
·        V5C – serialised on the front cover and back page that are document issuing.
·        Document reference number has been added to each section.
·        Perforations have been changed on the last page.

We have already seen a number of these logbooks pass through our hands which we have scanned over and agree, it is a much simpler document and easier to use. The instructions are laid out in an easy-to-read format allowing for fewer mistakes. Overall, a job well done!
