MOT Extension – Everything You Need to Know

Image
Amidst the struggle and the confusion surrounding COVID-19, the UK Government has introduced new laws which allows cars, motorcycles and light commercial vehicles a 6-month extension on their MOT providing it is due from 30 th March 2020. What do I need to do? The short answer is nothing. You won’t need to do anything providing your MOT expiry date is on or after 30 th March 2020. That being said, drivers are warned that they must keep their vehicles in a safe and satisfactory order. Your vehicle, whether it be a Ford Transit Custom or a VolkswagenGolf, will automatically receive a 6-month MOT exemption. For example, if your current MOT is due to expire on 3 rd April 2020, this will automatically be extender to 3 rd October 2020. How do I check when my MOT is due? You can find out when your MOT is due by checking in your logbook for what date the vehicle was registered, by checking previous MOT certificates or by visiting the .GOV website. Visit this link t

More than half of van drivers admit to still using a mobile behind the wheel

Image
It has been revealed by Volkswagen that fewer than half of all van drivers in the UK use a hands-free kit of Bluetooth technology and continue to dangle the risk of receiving an eye-watering £200 fine and SIX penalty points. The study has found that even though the average commercial vehicle driver spends 37 minutes on the phone and make around 7 phone calls during a working day, only 41% use Bluetooth or a hands-free kit. If that isn’t enough, a staggering 17% of UK drivers admit to checking emails whilst on the move. The same number sends text messages and posts social media updates. Volkswagen has waged a war on using a mobile behind the wheel and now fits a standardised Bluetooth kit to its van model range with some vehicles offering App Connect.  The new Volkswagen Transporter T6.1 allows certain apps to be used while driving which includes the popular messaging application, WhatsApp which allows users to listen to messages over the speakers. Even though

Ladies and gentlemen stop what you’re doing and just take a look at the new Brabus 800 Adventure XLP, the latest G-Wagen to be released in to the wild. Yes, this is essentially a kitted-up Mercedes-AMG G63 but we still want to talk about it. It is nearly 70cm longer than the usual G model, with most of the expansion visible in the wheelbase. Considering the long list of extras and features, it can go from 0-62mph in under 5 seconds with a top speed of 130mph. Under the bonnet you will find a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with, wait for it… 789bhp. Built for rough-terrain and off-road adventures, the new Adventure XLP has a 49cm ground clearance and a suspension overhaul that allows it to take on the toughest of conditions. A feature that we haven’t seen before but believe we will see more of in the future is the pick-up bed that can allow drones to take off and land because… well, why not? If you consider yourself as ‘tech-savvy’ you might want to consider aski

Beat The Tax Increase: Road Tax Set To Rise On 1st April 2020

Image
There is a bump in the road ahead that you will want to avoid. Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) or road tax as it is mostly known is changing for new vehicles registered on or after 1 st April 2020. So, if you have been pondering about upgrading your car or commercial vehicle, March is your last chance to save up to £960 in tax. Why is VED changing? The Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP) focuses on vehicle fuel consumption, range and CO2 emissions. These tests determine how much harm different vehicles are doing to the planet. You might have heard of the previous testing procedure which was known as NEDC. This was originally developed in the 1990’s but has become outdated. WLTP has been introduced to consider real driving conditions which in turn provides more accurate fuel economy and vehicle emissions. How will it affect your Road Tax? In simple terms, these new tests are more stringent which means you could see an increase in road tax for yo
