The New 2019 Ford Transit mHEV
The new Ford Transit is an updated version of Ford’s large van
that we can expect to see during the middle of 2019. We first saw it at the IAA
Commercial Vehicle show in Hannover last year and not much else has been said
about it so today we are going to take a closer look at it.
Firstly, it’s received a nice modern facelift on the interior
and exterior. It also boasts a brand new engine making it more practical and
more efficient. What more could you want from a new van?
New Ford vans already dominate the commercial vehicle sales market
in the UK and we can honestly see this happening again with this latest model.
Even though it is technically not an “all-new” model, it has improved
substantially.
As we draw our eyes across the sharp-style new grille and advanced
headlight arrangement, there are quite a number of other important new features
that we think are worth taking note of in the new 2019 Ford Transit:
1. There is good news
when it comes to the payload. The current Transit loses out to its competitors,
but the new launch model will be able to compete strongly against some of the market’s
key players.
2. The updated 2.0-litre
EcoBlue diesel engine has given it better fuel economy which has been a downside
to the current model.
3. With a greater payload
comes more power thanks to the 185ps engine that delivers an impressive 415Nm
of torque allowing it to transport heavy loads with ease.
4. The drivers cab area
has received a complete makeover that in-turn has increased storage space
making it very similar to the new Ford Transit Custom.
5. The new 2019 FordTransit will feature a build-in 4G modem to allow greater management of fleet
vehicles and improve connectivity.
6. An impressive 10-speed
automatic gearbox will no-doubt have a huge appeal for long distance drivers,
but this option is only available on the rear-wheel drive models.
Probably the most notable announcement from Ford is the introduction of the
48-volt mild hybrid (mHEV) technology.
So what is the Ford
Transit mHEV?
Well the first item we should tick off is that mHEV stands for mild
Hybrid Electric Vehicle and is basically designed to boost fuel economy.
It works by combining a new 48-volt electrics
system - previously the reserve of posh cars from Audi and Bentley, although
this has been developed independently of Ford's new partnership with the Volkswagen
Group, with a small lithium ion battery. Whenever the van slows down, the
electrics capture the energy generated by braking and store it in the battery,
where it then helps to power all other on-board systems.
We will be able to supply this vehicle to all size
